When does AI help us think, and when does it get in the way of learning? Maria Osetrova explores collaboration between people and models, and how to preserve independent judgement.
September 29, 2026 · Yerevan, Armenia · Talk in Russian
On September 29, 2026, Digital October and Sami Residence hosted Maria Osetrova’s talk in Yerevan on interactions between the brain and artificial intelligence.
The neuroscientist, science communicator and language model analyst examined the human–AI system: where it can help, what its limitations are, and how delegation affects learning and a sense of authorship. The central question was how to benefit from this assistance while keeping people responsible for goals, checking results and accountability. The talk was delivered in Russian.
Key questions
- How are brains and language models similar, and how do they differ?
- When does collaboration between a person and AI improve the result?
- How can we delegate tasks while preserving learning, verification and responsibility?
Key takeaways
- Similar representations in a brain and a model do not mean that they use the same algorithm.
- The studies presented show that collaboration with AI does not guarantee an advantage over the best individual performer.
- The design of assistance matters: receiving a ready-made answer and support for solving a problem independently have different relationships with learning.
